Abstract

|
현대사회는 과거 산업화 이후 빠른 통신 발달과 고도화된 인공지능 기술 산업화로 진입하게 되었고, 최근에는 ‘4차 산업혁명’이라는 새로운 화두가 산업전반에 변화를 요구하고 있다. 사회학자 등 관련학자들은 4차 산업에 대한 준비와 연구, 인식의 변화 등 다양한 문제들을 제시하고 있지만 정작 현대인들은 인식과 교육 훈련이 부족한 상태로 새로운 산업 환경에 직면하게 되었다. 그 동안 우리 현대인들은 무한 경쟁사회에 내몰려 치열한 삶을 살면서 정신적 고통과 육체적 피로를 동반하여 심신 건강이 위협받고 있다. 관련학계에서도 이러한 환경적 변화에 대한 많은 관심과 연구가 진행되고 있다. 이러한 환경에서 우리 인간이 심리적 안정과 정서적 감정 조절을 위해 영화를 선택하여 관람하게 되면 심리적 장애 발생을 최소화하거나 심리적 장애를 겪는 관객들에게 치료 또는 치유적 효과를 얻을 수 있다는 많은 연구결과들이 있다. 즉, 영화가 우리 인간의 정서적 변화에 크게 관여하여 영향을 미칠 수 있다고 사료된다. 모든 영화가 심리치료를 목적으로 활용되는 것은 아니다. 관객들은 영화의 내용과 장르에 따라 치료보다는 정서적 감정이 치유되었다는 측면에서 영화를 통해 힐링(healing) 받았다는 표현을 한다. 관객들이 ‘영화를 통해 힐링 받았다’라는 얘기는 영화의 서사 즉, 영화 이야기 일 수 도 있고, 배우의 연기, 공간, 음악 등 영화를 구성하는 다양한 요소들이 포함된다. 필자는 이러한 영화적 요소 중에 관객들이 힐링을 받을 수 있는 연구대상으로 영화<마담 프루스트의 비밀정원>에 등장하는 비밀 정원이라는 영화적 공간을 치유적 관점으로 분석 연구하였다. 특히 영화에서 공간은 영화의 이야기를 풀어내는 매우 중요한 공간으로 영화의 이야기를 더욱 영화적으로 서술할 수 있는 장치일 뿐만 아니라 관객들에게 특별한 추억을 소환하기도 하고, 판타지를 제공하여 치유적 효과를 제공하기도 한다. 이러한 영화적 공간에 대한 분석연구는 관련이론 연구와 병행될 것이며, 이를 바탕으로 영화의 특정 공간과 장면을 치유적 관점으로 분석한다. 관객들은 영화의 특정 공간을 통해 주인공 폴이 정신적 장애를 치유해 가는 과정을 지켜보면서 어떠한 심리적 안정감을 획득하게 되는지에 대한 연구이기 때문에 특별한 연구의 틀을 적용하여 분석하기 보다는 이론적 객관성과 타당성에 집중하였다. 따라서 본 연구는 영화의 특정 공간을 통해 극중 배우가 심리적 장애를 극복해 가는 과정에서 관객들은 자신을 반추하며 감정이입에 따라 관객들도 치유적 효과를 얻는다는 연구결과이다.

The world of our time has seen the vast development in communication technology as well as the entry into the advanced artificial intelligence technique. Lately the 4th industrial revolution requires the drastic change in every aspect of the entire industry. Though sociologists have long been calling for the proper preparation for the revolution, the fact is people nowadays are actually facing the revolution without enough preparation. Therefore, their life in this rapidly changing society is both fierce and threatening so much that they live everyday under utmost mental and physical fatigue. How to adapt themselves into this harsh society has still been under research. There have been several studies that people can acquire not only the psychological security but also the mental serenity through the healing power of the carefully chosen movies. Movies affect immensely people’s state of mind. When people feel comforted by seeing a movie, they say they experienced its healing power. The ‘healing’ may come from either its narrative, actor’s performance, its music or its space. Among these several cinematic factors, this study focuses on the space as a healing factor. The argument is the secret garden in has the healing power over the movie audience. The main character Paul and his space in this movie affect the audience so it can achieve psychological peace. The conclusion of this study is the audience also feels healed by watching how Paul overcomes his mental disability through a particular space.
